Born in Warrington, Simon Henry began studying drums at a young age with local drum tutor Phil Clarke. After a few years he began playing in local rock bands and soon moved to London to study at Tech Music school. It was whilst in school his love for jazz flourished and upon graduation Simon began studying jazz at Leeds Conservatoire. Whilst at the conservatoire Simon studied with Pete Fairclough and spent the majority of his time studying with Sebastian De Krom. Simon has worked with some of the UK’s top jazz musicians and upon graduation he was awarded a full scholarship for his masters.

Simon has established himself on the thriving Leeds music scene and has worked with a variety of musical projects and many of the North’s great musicians. He has performed all over the UK and Europe, primarily with jazz ensembles. Always seeking to improve his craft Simon regularly takes trips to New York and has taken lessons with Michael Carvin, Kenny Washington, John Riley, Mike Clarke and he has been regularly studying with acclaimed drummer Rodney Green.

Influenced by drummers such as Max Roach, Roy Haynes, Philly Joe Jones, Ed Blackwell, Elvin Jones, Louis Hayes and many more, links to Simon’s music is available here. Currently playing with Mu Quintet and various jazz ensembles Simon regularly plays shows all over the UK. His music has been streamed over 1.5 millions times, pressed to vinyl and sold all over the world. Described by BBC radio as ‘Absolutely Incredible’ Mu Quintet and quickly reaching critical acclaim.
